MIDI Directory Overview

  • .

The musicians who have created these MIDI files have an amazing level of dedication, preparing the MIDI files and making them accessible on their web sites.

Use the links above to search for MIDI file web sites by Musical Style, Artist/Composer, or Instrument. Clicking a link will take you to a page with subcategories, such as Classical and Folk under Musical Style. Clicking the subcategory displays specific web sites that specialize in offering MIDI files in that category.

I provide a brief review of the kinds of MIDI files we found at each web site, as well as tips for downloading the files from that site.

You can also Search for MIDI Files to visit some web sites that specialize in searching for MIDI files by song title and/or composer. You can also use your favorite general search engine, such as Google or Yahoo by typing "MIDI", followed by the name of the song, artist, or composer you are looking for.

Looking for karaoke (.kar) files?
Many of the MIDI files in categories such as Musicals include lyrics. A karaoke (.kar) file is just a special type of MIDI file that also includes lyrics. Notation products highlight the lyrics and notes as they play for these files. For karaoke fun with your friends and family, you can view lyrics displayed with just the melody line, displayed in a large font size, by choosing the "Prepare Sing-Along Part" in Notation Musician or Notation Composer's "Part" menu.

To find more karaoke files on the Internet, use your favorite search engine such as Google or Yahoo. In the search box, type "karaoke", followed by the song title that you are looking for. You can usually right-click on the .kar file to save it to your computer, or just open it with Notation Musician or Composer to see the notes and lyrics as the music plays.

Please note that all links in this directory (except the Samples and some Bass Practice files) go to other websites. While I try to make sure that these are safe sites, I cannot guarantee them. If you find a problem with a website that I have linked to, I would appreciate your letting me know at webmaster@beanfieldcastle.net

This directory was originally hosted by Notation Software, Inc., which has since transferred ownership to Notation Software Germany.
